…I need to learn to yell at those kids. I really do.
Last Friday I gave them one simple assignment: copy the English alphabet 10 times. I walked them through the process and made sure everyone knew had a correct original to copy from. I told them they had three days to complete that simple homework. Many students actually forgot about the assignment. Half of Class 3-2 did not do it. Virtually no one got the alphabet right. Most of them had problem with the lower case “k” and many had the letter “N” backward. Some were obviously not paying attention when they were copying at all. I saw examples how a “D” could gradually mutate into a “B” and how an “N” into “W”.
So, forget the book for the moment. I need them to remember the alphabet. Then I can move on to penmanship.
“The dirt field”

This is where the kids play. Looks innocent but its quite dangerous. I thought they were going to pave it with concrete but instead it would dirt. Finer dirt. Right now there are still a huge number of potentially dangerous rocks laying around in the dirt field. They need to be removed before the kids can safely play there.
So this is what the school did:

They sent in the kids and ordered them to pick up the pieces.
PS:
After hearing so much about the book I finally bought “Unhappy China”. I may write a review. But that depends on how the kids do in the near future.
I will be back in HK for about a week (10-1 to 10-6).
And now, for something completely different:
